Broadfield is a global law firm operating across diverse sectors and jurisdictions. The firm combines local insight with global capability to provide adaptable, value-driven legal advice, built on a reputation for premium quality delivered with real efficiency – underpinned by a modern operational framework and streamlined workflows.
Broadfield was relocating 80 staff to a new home within Aquis House in the heart of Reading. They required a complete transformation of an empty space into a functional, compliant and beautifully finished workspace, and of course a seamless relocation for their employees. The project was to feature workspaces in open plan clusters as well as a boardroom, focused meeting rooms and pods for private work. Broadfield also required breakout areas for collaborative working and dining, including a tea point area and lounge. Lockers and storage were part of the brief to support hybrid working and hot desking.
The design brief was for layout and fittings that would be visually striking across the available 770 square metres of floorspace, and that reflected the firm’s operational needs and strategic ambitions. Over 200 new data points were required to support a modern, fully connected office. A tight timescale, quality finish and sustainability were at the forefront of their partner selection process.
Delivered under a JCT Design and Build contract, Active took full responsibility for the design and delivery of the fit out from first principles through to completion. Our scope spanned site set-up and health & safety management, partitioning and ceilings, decorations and floor finishes, a bespoke tea point, mechanical and electrical services, a new lighting scheme, fire detection, structured cabling, and a full furniture supply and installation package – giving Broadfield a single point of accountability for the entire project.
With a tight programme to hit, our project management team ran weekly subcontractor meetings to keep every trade coordinated and on schedule, while a weekly project update and report kept Broadfield fully informed at every stage. The result was a programme delivered on time, without compromising on quality.
Broadfield’s priority was simple: delivery on time, on cost, and to the right quality – and that’s exactly what Active delivered. Despite a demanding programme, the works were completed on schedule, and Broadfield were delighted with their new Reading office.
It is Active’s excellence in communicating that really helped this project run so well. Any potential issues were identified before they happened and Active came to us with solutions alongside the issue itself. The quality of the finishes and the visuals of the design are a tremendous achievement, and we feel reflect the high standards, quality and service that Broadfield offers their clients. Using a local supplier reflects our commitment to responsible and sustainable supply chains and we are delighted with the result. On time, on budget and beautifully finished – what more could we ask?
